Tap Dance Classes
Tap dance classes are taught at Excel Performing Arts for students from six years old.
Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sound of one’s tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. The sound is made by shoes with a metal “tap” on the heel and toe.
Tap is a great way to improve a dancer’s rhythm and musicality and it is a lot of fun too. Where else do children get away with making noise but in a tap class?
This popular style is danced around the world by people young and old, whether they are beginners or professional. Tap is as popular today as it was in the days of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Classics such as 42nd Street, Crazy for You, and the more recent Stomp, Billy Elliot and Tap Dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping.
At Excel we offer optional grade and medal exams with the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) which start at Preparatory grade all the way through to Advanced.
All Classes take place at Bowmansgreen School in London Colney, St Albans, Hertfordshire. To enquire about Tap Classes, please email Sam Payton (principal@excelperformingarts.co.uk) or call on 07866 274703
