WOW! What a BRILLIANT show weekend we have just had. ‘EXCELMAZING’ lived up to it’s title and was truly amazing.
Our annual show at the Sandpit Theatre in St Albans is always the highlight of the Excel calendar and this year just over 160 students took part. There are all sorts of skills our students learn from being in an Excel show. Multi tasking, mastering props, staying cool, calm and collected, sometimes having to adapt quickly to different situations and overcoming nerves. The most important skill they learn though is teamwork. Everyone has to work together to make their show piece amazing and everyone plays a vital role in achieving this.
We love to celebrate tap dancing at Excel and this year we had a huge epic tap number from the wonderful Gershwin musical ‘Crazy For You.’ There was also a surprise cameo performance in this piece from Excel’s director – Steven Houghton.
As well as tap dancing, the show involved a thrilling mix of ballet, street and hip hop dance, jazz, contemporary, singing and drama. We have absolutely loved working on all of the pieces in ‘Excelmazing’ and feel quite sad it is over. It will definitely go down in the Excel history books as one of our favourite shows.
We are feeling very proud of everyone. It is a gradual journey that we go on with the students to get to that final moment on stage in front of an audience and it is magical to see each student grow with confidence and feel so proud of themselves. Well done to each and every one of them.
We will miss working on ‘Excelmazing’ but will hold on to some wonderful memories that will last forever.
